Public Works Award

Public Works Director Stavros presented the Board with the American Public Works Association Project Award which was given to the Village of Wheeling by the Suburban Branch of the Public Works Association.

Police Chief John Stone Award
Award presented to Police Chief John Stone from the Wheeling Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association and Citizens Patrol

The Wheeling Citizens Police Academy presented Chief Stone with an additional award in appreciation of his support.

Charles (Jay) Gallant, Jr. Day
Fire Chief MacIsaac said a few words about Jay’s time with the Wheeling Fire Department and thanked him for his years of service to the Village of Wheeling.

Manager Sfondilis informed everyone that Nancy Rottman was unable to attend the meeting. Director Stavros accepted the plaque on her behalf.

Volunteer Month WHEREAS, April has been proclaimed to be National Volunteer Month in the Village of Wheeling, and National Volunteer Month was established in April as the official time to recognize and celebrate the efforts of volunteers at the local, state and national levels; and

WHEREAS, many employees and citizens of the Village of Wheeling work behind the scenes to better the community and are deserving of recognition; and

WHEREAS, The Plan Commission is an active Commission in the Village of Wheeling which was created to prepare a comprehensive Village plan for the guidance, direction and control of the growth and development or redevelopment of the Village of Wheeling and contiguous territory as well as act as the Sign Code Board of Appeals and the Appearance Review Commission for the Village; and

WHEREAS, Terry Steilen has volunteered as a Wheeling Plan Commissioner to assist the Village Board with following the Comprehensive Plan for development and redevelopment.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Dean Argiris, President of the Village of Wheeling, do hereby proclaim April 2009 as VOLUNTEER MONTH and call upon the citizens of Wheeling to honor the efforts of volunteers such as Terry Steilen who have volunteered throughout our community.

President Abruscato presented the plaque to Angela Burrell of the Wheeling Police Department.

Public Works "Project of the Year Award"
Public Works Association. Manager Sfondilis presented a plaque to the Village Board from the American Public Works Association. The plaque is an award for Project of the Year for the Village’s Public Works building. President Abruscato gave the plaque to Director of Public Works Stavros to hang in their building.

Trick Or Treat Day

 

The children of the Village of Wheeling are entitled to enjoy the fun and festivity associated with the observance of the Halloween "Trick or Treat" custom, which is to say going from door to door in their immediate neighborhoods to display their costumes and request "treats;" and even at such festive times, accidents are an ever-present threat; and traditionally, Halloween has been an occasion when childish pranks have been played, and some of said pranks have resulted in physical harm to others as well as damage to automobiles and other properties of innocent owners; Trick Or Treat Day

Patrick A. Trunda Day
Patrick A. Trunda joined the Wheeling Fire Department on July 1, 1978 as a “Paid-on-Call Firefighter” and on December 22, 1980 was sworn in as a full-time “Firefighter”; and after completing more than 32 years of combined service with the Wheeling Fire Department, Lieutenant/Paramedic Patrick A.
