ORIGINAL PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH The Wheeling Historical Society meetings are held at the old original Presbyterian church which is now called the Chamber Community Center and is located in Chamber Park another of the Wheeling Park District's facilities. "Lollipop Lane" and the "Old Fashion Picnic" is also held on this site. On weekdays, the building is used for preschool classes by the park district. This original Zion Presbyterian Church was the fIrst and for many years, the only church in the village of Wheeling. Services were held half in English and half in German. The building served as a social gathering place as well as a place of worship for the village. In 1962, a new Presbyterian Church was built On Highland Avenue and in 1969 the old Church was saved by the park district and moved trom Dundee Road west of Milwaukee A venue to Chamber Park, again serving the community as a gathering place. |
