Is there anyway to let me know what existed on our property in the late 1880 and early 1990s as we have found odd things buried in our backyard. We are located on Wille Avenue right across from the Walt Whitman Elementary School. Thank you

I have a relative who lived at 2240 Water Street in wheeling in 1930. I can't find Water Street on an old or new map. Can you point it out to me please?

My Great Grandfather Peter Summerfield with his wife and two daughter's moved to Wheeling in the year of 1872 from Germany. While living in Wheeling from 1872 till 1901 he worked at a Cole mine near by for twenty five years. Him and his wife had four more children while there my Grandfather was first born named William Joseph Summerfield 1n 1878 next was Eddie born in Dec 1883 but died two week later Jan 6th 1884 and was buried at MT Calvary cemetery the family finally moved across the river to northside Pittsburgh pa where in 1915 my father William James Summerfield Sr was born. but I am coming up this weekend to see where my great grandfather lived. and check out things around that area. take care. Bill

I was born in chicago, moved to wheeling when i was 1 yr old. went to kindergarden for 1/2 yr at the old church next to the fire/police station. ours was th e last class there. Mrs Painting was the teacher. the second half yr i had was at St Marks. your site is nice, because it brings back a lot of memories. went to Mark Twain, Jack London, and of course WHS. been back from time to time and am amazed and disappointed at the growth. the sign entering wheeling use to say 'WHEELING Where progress is by the people.' i guess that wasn't good enough for later government, and changed it to something pretty lame.

My Dad's father was pastor of the Lutheran Church there (St Mark's), Frederick G. Alpers. I have been going through my father's things and my dad referenced a story about a place that got shot up for moonshine (Dague or Dangue?/). He had mentioned that his dad had comforted the family regarding their loss. Do you folks have any knowledge of such an event? Let me know. Anyways, thank you for your site and your time----Marlyn
